Operation Helping Hands 2010 June-21-2010

JOIN HANDS. OPEN YOUR HEART. LEND YOUR MUSCLE.  Operation Helping Hands 2010!

Over 450 volunteers tackled clean up, painting and landscaping projects at eleven different Kane County sites as part of "Operation Helping Hands 2010"!  Operation Helping Hands, a collaboration between Fox Valley United Way and Ginger Creek Community Church encourages volunteers to lend a hand to Fox Valley social service organizations that serve families and individuals who need support. Additional supporting organizations included; The City of Aurora, Main Baptist Church, Warehouse Church, Community Christian Church, Next Level Foundation, Sow a Seed Outreach and the Aurora Housing Authority.

 

 

Operation Helping Hands projects include:

 

 

·         Landscaping at Aid for Individual Development

·         Landscaping and general clean up at Eastwood Housing Facility, Aurora.

·         Clean up at the Elderday Center, Batavia.

·         Clean up, Painting and Landscaping at Hesed House, Aurora.

·         Window washing and entertainment at Jennings Terrace, an Aurora nursing home.

·         Landscaping at Marie Wilkinson Child Development Center , Aurora .

·         Clean up projects at Mooseheart

·         Landscaping at Mutual Ground, Aurora

·         Clean up at Senior Services, Aurora

- Educator, Strategist Join Fox Valley United Way Board

A local educator and a business strategist with strong experience in healthcare have joined the Fox Valley United Way Board of Directors.

 

The educator is Joseph Harmon, assistant principal at East Aurora High School. 

The business strategist is Gail Bumgarner, senior vice president, strategy, at Rush-Copley Medical Center , Aurora .

 

 “Joe and Gail provide insights that will be especially valuable as Fox Valley United Way implements plans and programs to help community members through this difficult recession period,” FVUW Board Chair Melinda James said in announcing the appointments.  “We have an active, committed Board that is very focused on meeting community needs.”

 

 

Bumgarner, who once was a director at the United Way of McHenry County , Woodstock , brings more than two decades of healthcare related marketing and planning experience to Fox Valley United Way.  “Her combination of United Way experience, knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and planning will be especially valuable to our organization,” James said.   Prior to joining Rush-Copley last year, Bumgarner was vice president of strategic management and marketing at Cardinal Health System, Muncie, IN , and vice president at Magellan Management Group, a hospital consulting firm.

 

           

Harmon, whose “ability to connect with teens and their family situations is extremely important to us,” according to James, has been involved in Aurora area schools since the late 1980s when he was director of vocal music at Marmion Military Academy . At East Aurora , Harmon was social studies department chair; program administrator of adult education; and technical liaison responsible for developing online grading, assessment and related programs.  He was appointed assistant principal at East Aurora in 2004.
