The Region’s continuing economic struggles increase focus on fundraising needs. Three business leaders with far-reaching connections in the community and impressive professional credentials have joined an expanded Fox Valley United Way Board of Directors.
The three new Directors are:
• Stephanie Burks, Central Region finance manager for UPS, Aurora, and a member-visiting professor in the Urban League Black Executive Exchange Program.
• Jesse Vazquez, now in his second term as a member of the Kane County Board and an account executive at Konen Insurance, Inc., Aurora.
• Patrick Kelsey, executive vice president at WBK Associates, Ltd., an engineering and design firm in St. Charles and Aurora. Kelsey is a Certified Professional Soil Scientist and Classifier; a Certified Arborist; and a Qualified Wetland Review Specialist.
The addition of Burks, Vazquez and Kelsey expands the FVUW Board to 18, an expansion made necessary, FVUW CEO Mike Meyer says, by continuing economic troubles in the Fox Valley. “There may be hints that the economy is improving nationally, but we are seeing very little improvement in the Fox Valley,” Meyer said in announcing the appointment of the new Board members. “From such basic needs as food and shelter to education and healthcare, too many families in the Fox Valley continue to hurt.”
The expansion of the FVUW Board of Directors is part of a strategic plan to increase the organization’s reach, visibility and fund-raising effectiveness, Meyer said. “We have a good team – and it just got better” with the newest Board members.
